Court may order prisoner to be brought before it

25. (1) Where any person for whose appearance or arrest a court is empowered to issue a summons or warrant is confined in prison, the court may issue an order to the officer in charge of such prison requiring the officer to bring such prisoner in proper custody, at a time to be named in the order, before such court.
The officer to whom an order issued under subsection (1) is directed, on receipt of such order, shall act in accordance therewith, and shall provide for the safe custody of the prisoner during the prisoner’s absence from the prison for the purpose aforesaid and shall thereafter return the prisoner to the prison unless otherwise ordered by a court, and such prisoner shall for all purposes be deemed to be in lawful custody during such absence.
