Power to order joint trial of young person with an adult

7. (1) This section applies where a young person and a person who has attained the age of seventeen are jointly charged with any criminal offence.
Where this section applies, and notwithstanding the provisions of any other law, a judge of the Grand Court may order a joint trial on such terms and conditions as that judge may decide to impose having regard both to the welfare of the young person and the necessity of doing justice in the case.
An application for an order under subsection (2) may be made to a judge in chambers before a mode of trial has been determined for any of the joint charges with respect to which the application is made.
In subsection (2) — “trial” includes committal proceedings. Powers of courts relating to young persons
