Probation period

A new employee may, if mutually agreed in writing between themselves and that person's employer, be employed on probationary terms for an initial period not exceeding six months in duration.
At the end of the initial probationary period that period may be extended by mutual agreement for a term not exceeding a further six months, provided that such agreement shall be in writing and signed by both parties thereto.
During that person's probation period, an employee shall be given reasonable training in the duties of the position for which that person was hired, and shall be kept informed of that person's progress.
At any time during that person's probation period an employee's employment may be terminated but reasons for such termination shall be given to the employee.
Upon confirmation of employment after a probationary period all earned benefits under this Act shall be deemed to have accrued from the commencement of the probationary period.
