Subject to any rules, the Grand Court or a summary court may commit a person to prison for a term not exceeding six weeks if it is satisfied —
that the person is in default of payment of any sum due under a judgment debt;
that the person has the means to pay the judgment debt, whether in full or by instalments; and
that the person is wilfully refusing or neglecting to satisfy the judgment debt in the manner in respect of which the court is satisfied that person has the means.
Any person imprisoned under this section shall be discharged out of custody upon a certificate signed in the prescribed manner to the effect that the judgment debt has been satisfied in full or the default in respect of which the person was imprisoned has been cured.
An order of committal under this section may be made against a person notwithstanding any previous such order (whether or not discharged) in respect of the same or another judgment debt.
