5. (1) In the exercise of the Department’s functions under section 4, an officer of the Department may —
require an applicant or a recipient to provide the Department with information and produce documents as the Director may specify;
require an applicant or a recipient to attend at a time and place as the Director may require; and
after receiving the consent of an applicant or a recipient, given at or immediately before the time of entry, enter premises occupied by the applicant or the recipient between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on any day, to make an examination or inquiry as the Director may consider to be necessary for verifying the particulars of an application and for investigating the circumstances and means of the applicant or recipient or other member of the applicant’s or recipient’s household.
Where an officer, in the exercise of the officer’s functions or in carrying out the officer’s duties becomes aware of the alleged commission of an offence, the officer shall report this to the Director, who shall as soon as reasonably practicable, report the matter to the Police Service.
The Department has power to do anything which is reasonably required to discharge its functions under this Act or any other law.
