Offences involving threats

A person commits an offence if —
in order to compel any other person to do or abstain from doing any act, the person threatens that the person or some other person will do, in relation to any ship or fixed platform, an act which is an offence by virtue of section 409(1); and
the making of that threat is likely to endanger the safe navigation of the ship or the safety of the fixed platform.
Subject to subsection (4), a person commits an offence if —
in order to compel any other person to do or abstain from doing any act, the person threatens that the person or some other person will do an act which is an offence by virtue of section 410(1); and
the making of that threat is likely to endanger the safe navigation of any ship.
Except as provided by subsection (4), subsections (1) and (2) apply whether any such act as mentioned in those subsections is committed in the Islands or elsewhere and regardless of the nationality of the person committing the act.
Section 410(6) applies for the purposes of subsection (2)(b) as it applies for the purposes of section 410(1) and (3).
A person who commits an offence under this section is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for life.
