Licences for professional operations

A person shall not —
keep pet animals belonging to another person for which a charge is made;
breed pet animals;
sell a pet animal or act as broker in relation to the sale or transfer of animals;
train or keep animals for guard duties other than the guarding of that person's own premises; or
keep animals for public display,
unless that person holds an operating licence.
A person intending to carry on an activity specified in subsection (1) shall apply to the Director for an operating licence.
The Director may, subject to this section, issue an operating licence under this section to a person who applies to the Director under subsection (2) ("an applicant").
The Director shall not issue an operating licence unless the Director is satisfied —
that the applicant is a suitable person to hold such a licence for the activity in question; and
that the premises where the activity will be carried on are suitable.
An operating licence —
shall state the name of the licensee; and
shall identify the premises to which the licence relates.
Operating licences are annual and subject to the payment of the prescribed fee.
A person who contravenes subsection (1) commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of ten thousand dollars.
