Section 5Part 2 — Registration and Licensing of Vehicles

The Director shall establish and maintain the Register of Motor Vehicles and Drivers.
The register maintained at the commencement of this Act shall be taken to have been established under subsection (1) and be continued under this Act.
Vehicles required to be registered under this Act shall be registered by serial, alphabetical or alpha-numeric numbers under prescribed registration categories.
The Director shall —
provide the Commissioner with the names of registered owners of vehicles and the registration numbers of the vehicles they own;
provide the Commissioner with such information from the register with respect to owners and vehicles as the Commissioner may require; and
keep the Commissioner informed of new registrations and changes of ownership.
The Director shall, on payment of the prescribed fee, supply (to any person who applies for a copy of the entries on the register relating to any specified vehicle or driver) a copy of those entries.
In court proceedings —
the contents of the register; and
extracts from the register purporting to be certified as such by the Director, shall be proof of the contents of the register unless the contrary is proved.
