34. (1) If a land certificate or certificate of lease is lost or destroyed, the proprietor may apply to the Registrar for the issue of a new certificate, and shall produce evidence to satisfy the Registrar of the loss or destruction of the previous certificate.
The Registrar may require a statutory declaration that the certificate has been lost or destroyed.
If satisfied with the evidence as to the loss or destruction of the certificate the Registrar may, after the publication of such notice as he may think fit, cancel the previous certificate and issue a new certificate in the name of the proprietor.
If after the issue of a new certificate the previous certificate is found, it shall be delivered to the Registrar for destruction.
