Civil rights in respect of maintenance and champerty

A person shall not be liable in tort for the offence under the common law of maintenance or champerty, unless the cause of action accrued before the coming into force of this section.
The abolition of criminal and civil liability under this Act for maintenance and champerty shall not affect any rule of law as to the cases in which a contract is to be treated as contrary to public policy or otherwise illegal.
