Disclosure in certain cases

Subject to subsection (2), information collected under this Act in relation to a person in the register may be disclosed only in accordance with this Act or in such manner as may be prescribed by the regulations.
The Registrar shall not disclose identification information stored, collected or obtained under this Act about any person to a third party or any other entity, except where the identification information is disclosed in any of the following cases —
pursuant to a request of the person whose information is being disclosed;
to facilitate the search for or identification of missing persons or unknown deceased persons;
pursuant to an order of a court;
where this Act or another enactment expressly authorizes the disclosure;
for the prevention, detection or investigation of a crime;
to facilitate an investigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act (2020 Revision);
in the interest of national security;
where there is a disaster as defined by section 2 of the Disaster Preparedness and Hazard Management Act (2019 Revision) or a public health emergency; or
for the preservation of the life of a person.
The court may, on an application by the Registrar, grant an order for disclosure of the information of a person or groups of persons in the register on the grounds that the disclosure is necessary —
for the prevention, detection or investigation of a crime;
in the interest of national security;
where is a disaster as defined by section 2 of the Disaster Preparedness and Hazard Management Act (2019 Revision) or a public health emergency; or
to facilitate an investigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act (2020 Revision).
