Effect of defect in formalities or procedures

Save as provided in section 18, a defect in compliance with the formalities or procedures required under this Law does not, in itself, render a civil partnership void.
Notwithstanding subsection (1), nothing in this section exempts the Registrar, a Civil Registrar or a civil partnership officer who does anything contrary to the provisions of this Law from any penalty for an offence under this Law.
